A lawsuit has been filed in Ravalli County against Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks for using an emergency process to close down a section of the Bitteroot River and not giving the public time to weigh in on the decision.

Ravalli County Sheriff Chris Hoffman issued an alert for residents to be aware that this week's warm weather may trigger flood conditions on the Bitterroot River.

Flood warning for Friday on the Bitterroot River

Authorities say a 61-year-old man suffered a medical condition that caused him to crash his SUV northwest of Stevensville. Montana Highway Patrol Sgt. Ken Breidenbach says William James Fears was driving 3 mph or less on Stevensville Cutoff Road when he crashed sometime Friday morning. The vehicle landed upside down on a grassy patch right on the edge of the Bitterroot River.
