Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On February 20, 2024, at around 9:08 AM, the Missoula Police Department announced that they are continuing their thorough investigation into the incident involving the discharge of a firearm near Johnson St. and W. Kent. According to Public Information Officer Whitney Bennett, detectives are actively working to gather information and piece together the events leading up to the incident. 

“The individual taken into custody has been identified as 28-year-old Martin Pelayo-Olmedo and is now being remanded on charges for Criminal Endangerment, after discharging a firearm at the Montana Rail Link Park,” Bennett said. “The Police Department would like to reassure the community that the situation is being treated with the utmost seriousness, and we remain dedicated to ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents.” 

During the investigation, individuals near the incident reported hearing gunfire passing by them. According to Bennett, no injuries were reported.  

“We are requesting residents north and east of the Montana Rail Link Park (MRL) to inspect the sides of their houses for any potential bullet holes as this could be crucial for the investigation and for evidence collecting,” Bennett said. “Your cooperation in this matter is appreciated for a comprehensive understanding of the situation. We appreciate the community's ongoing support and cooperation.”
