Officials in Glacier National Park say a search is under way for a 27-year-old seasonal park employee who did not return from a personal day hike in the southern part of the park.

Jacob Rigby was reported overdue at 2 a.m. Monday. His vehicle was found at the Fielding Trailhead along U.S. Highway 2, but air and ground searches Monday turned up no sign of him.

Park spokeswoman Denise Germann says more than 50 people and a dog team continued to search Tuesday for Rigby, who is a member of the exotic plant team working at the park.

Rigby is an avid and skilled hiker and familiar with the park.

Officials say it is believed Rigby was hiking an extreme mountain traverse in the southern end of the park.
