A very cold and wet weather system will impact Western Montana through Wednesday.

Meteorologist Jeff Kitzmiller with the National Weather Service office in Missoula said some wet, slushy show is expected in the mountain regions.

“A pretty impressive snow-producing  weather system is working its way through the Pacific Northwest as we speak, which is one of the reasons why we’ve had rain the last few days,” Kitzmiller said. “As the low approaches, it’s going to be even cooler, and snow levels will start to drop to around 6,000 feet. There’s a large amount of moisture that will be affecting Glacier National Park, which may add to the snow totals in that area.”

Kitzmiller said the heavy rains expected for the Missoula area won’t cause much increase in the water levels on the major rivers, however, some smaller streams may be in danger of flooding.

Kitzmiller said the Pacific system will be out of the area by Wednesday night, with much warmer weather by Thursday, and expected highs near 80 in Missoula.
