Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On August 15, 2023, at 8:03 a.m., Missoula Police Department officers responded to the Poverello Center after receiving a report that a male suspect pointed a 9mm handgun at multiple people in the parking lot. When the officers arrived, the male had already fled the area on foot. An officer interviewed the victims.

The first victim reported that she was sitting in the parking lot with another female when the suspect walked up to them and pulled a handgun. She said the suspect pointed the gun at them and said something to the effect of: “Try me! Say something b***h. My s**t’s loaded.” The victim initially thought the gun might be a BB gun, but when the other female said that she, “saw a clip,” the victim recognized the gun was real.

The victim explained that the suspect was agitated and was pointing his gun at multiple people. Another victim stated that the suspect also pointed the gun at him. He also reported that the firearm was a 9mm. He said he was afraid the suspect was going to shoot him because the suspect pointed the gun directly at him.

Officers eventually located the suspect, identified as 22-year-old Troy Gobert, behind the Citi Lodge Motel. Gobert had a black handgun in his waistband, which he surrendered to officers. Gobert then threw what appeared to be a loaded magazine into the river in an apparent attempt to conceal physical evidence. An officer eventually recovered the magazine.

According to court documents, the firearm in Gobert’s possession was a Smith and Wesson 9mm. Gobert was arrested and transported to jail. An officer reviewed surveillance video of the incident and easily identified Gobert as the suspect. On the video, the officer observed Gobert walking down the sidewalk in an agitated manner with a black handgun in his right hand. He then pointed the gun at multiple people.

Gobert is currently being charged with three counts of felony assault with a weapon and felony tampering with physical evidence.
