Dozens of top spellers from across Montana are scheduled to converge in Billings Saturday for the 47th Treasure State Spelling Bee.

The event is open to the public and will feature the top grade school and middle school spellers from every county in Montana. It is co-sponsored by Montana State University-Billings and the Lee Enterprises newspapers of Montana.

The state champion will earn a trip to the 89th annual Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington D.C. at the end of May.

The champ also receives a plaque, a copy of Merriam-Webster's Third New International Unabridged Dictionary, a $100 U.S. Savings Bond and a one-year subscription to Encyclopedia Britannica Online.

The event begins at 1 p.m. in MSU-Billings' Petro Theater.
