With much of Western Montana already facing the threat of high fire danger, many are wondering if county governments will prohibit the sale of fireworks this summer. Blue Dragon fireworks stand owner Debbie Clevidence says she is extremely worried about that prospect.

"I have several credit cards maxed out to the hilt, purchasing my fireworks, and I cannot send those fireworks back. So if they were to shut down firework stands and not let them sell, I'd be in a world of hut, because I would have major credit card bills that I would not be able to pay, plus there are lots of other expenses, the lot, the utilities..."

There are only 12 days in summer when firework stands can sale their wares and Clevidence hopes the dry conditions won’t scare off customers. Her stand is handing out fliers with advice on how to how to have fun and be safe at the same time.

"If you don't want to take any chances, that's great, just don't give up buying the fireworks. Save them and use them sometime else time. Just wait until the fire danger is gone, then use them. Although there are only 12 days when we can sell them, you can celebrate with fireworks all year long in the state of Montana outside of city limits. It's been that way as long as I've been selling fireworks."

Today, June 24, is opening day for Montana fireworks stands and, unless the rules change, they will remain open through July 5.
