Downtown Missoula is known as the heart of the community and there are so many great restaurants to choose from. Missoula’s dining scene is always evolving. In no particular order, here are some downtown restaurants you need to try.

Tamarack Brewing Company

Tamarack overlooks the well-known Caras Park and the Clark Fork River.  They have game-day specials, a famous bloody mary bar on weekends, and great Montana craft beer. Their buffalo chicken strips with beer-battered fries are an all-time favorite. 

Biga Pizza: 

All of their food is prepared from scratch utilizing only their brick oven as a cooking source.  Inspired by classic flavor profiles, Biga uses seasonal ingredients to create unforgettable pizzas, salads, and sandwiches. Check out their Flathead Cherry pizza that features housemade sausage, cherry chutney, smoked gouda, mozzarella, parsley, and garlic oil. 

Iron Horse Bar and Grill:

The Iron Horse is a full-service bar and grill. They serve a diverse array of premium food and drinks, including your favorite local brews, spirits, and wine. They pride themselves on the atmosphere and service that they provide. My family and I love going to the Iron Horse. We always start with the chips and queso and I always find myself ordering the chicken bacon ranch sandwich.

Double Front Café and Bar: 

For almost 60 years, Double Front Cafe & Bar has been serving Missoula. Folks love their world-famous fresh, never frozen, hand-battered chicken. Whether you prefer to dine in or take out, they have you covered. The main dining room has 13 tables and a full menu with a variety of options, including dinner salads, burgers, and more. 

El Cazador: 

They’ve been serving authentic Mexican cuisine since 1995. They take exceptional pride in providing the best-tasting Mexican food in all of Montana. Only the freshest ingredients are used in their authentic and traditional Mexican dishes.  

Second Set Bistro:

Second Set opened in 2019 and is located in the historic Florence Building in downtown Missoula. Second Set is a place to celebrate the love of food, wine, music, and community. They offer some of the most flavorful meals you've ever experienced in Missoula.  

Plonk: 

Plonk offers its clientele a stunning venue in which to congregate amongst friends, family, or business associates. They provide attentive yet relaxed service to their patrons whether they are stopping in for a quick cocktail after work or settling into a nine-course meal in our private cellar. You have to try their duck duck goose. It features seared duck breast, confit potatoes duck confit, fois gras vin, pickled grapes, brussels walnuts, and blood orange gel.

1889:

1889 is a classic steakhouse with locally and regionally sourced ingredients. They offer innovative and totally craveable cocktails. You can order anything on the Chef’s Creations menu and you won’t be disappointed. The crispy roasted chicken with potato Agnolotti, charred shishito peppers, confit tomato, crispy kale, and Tallegio-winter squash cream sauce is delicious. 

The Notorious PIG BBQ: 

Using techniques and recipes learned from the world-famous pitmasters of Saint Louis, the Notorious P.I.G. brings Missoula BBQ as it’s meant to be. They begin cooking every morning at 4 AM and only cook enough to get them through the day. You can be sure that what you’re eating is fresh. The pulled pork sandwich with a side of smoked gouda mac ‘n cheese is mouth-watering good. 

FINN: 

FINN gives surf and turf a contemporary twist. You can choose from the freshest steaks, seafood, and hand-tossed pizzas. Their award-winning bar features an impressive list of signature cocktails, select wines, and 16 delicious draft beers on tap highlighting Montana micro-brews. Our outdoor deck overlooks the river and surrounding mountains and is one of the city's favorite outdoor dining spots. 

Conflux Brewing Company: 

Conflux was built around simple ideas: Let's create a convergence (conflux) of great beer and unique food using sustainable and community-driven practices. Take in the views from the Conflux Taphouse which has oversized windows and an open balcony. They offer Montana-inspired comfort food.  

Ciao Mambo:

They serve up Italian cuisine in a great ambiance. Their pasta dishes with rich, savory sauces and fresh ingredients, thin-crust pizzas baked to perfection, and unmatchable service will keep you coming back for more.  

Pangea Bar:

Pangea is a full-service bar & restaurant serving American fare with a bit of global flare. They pair wine, local craft beers, and signature cocktails with every dish for the full food and drink experience. Enjoy wines from their award-winning wine list with over 500 offerings. Signature dishes include Laos Curry, Wagyu Tagliate, Shiitake Risotto, and Escolar Fish Tacos. 

The Thomas Meagher Bar: 

Nestled in the heart of downtown lies a little piece of Ireland.  The Thomas Meagher Bar has everything you may need including traditional Irish pub fare and one of the largest selections of Irish Whiskey in Western Montana. The Pitt Boss Chicken sandwich with skins-on chips is to die for.
