It's been a rough year for the restaurant industry in Missoula, as eateries deal with staffing problems, and some legacy owners decide it's just time to switch gears. That's led to not just reduced hours, but some landmark food destinations closing for good.

This is why the opening of the Texas Roadhouse location in Missoula is such a big deal, giving not only customers a new place to dine out, but new opportunities for displaced restaurant workers, or those looking for a career in food service.

Last month we reported first that Texas Roadhouse was ready to open its new location in the Southgate Mall sooner than expected. Now we have the actual date for those first customers to look forward to.

On Monday, Texas Roadhouse announced the new 9,000-square-foot restaurant adjacent to the mall's main entrance will be opening in mid-November. A sign posted on the door gives November 13th as opening day. That's expected to include both dining and To-Go services.

Hiring is underway

But perhaps the most important update is that we finally have an idea of how many people the restaurant will employ. The company is aiming to hire a team of 200 for the Missoula operation, which will make it among the largest restaurant employers in the city.

The company says those interested in applying for the full and part-time jobs can do so online, or they can stop by the mall to apply in person on Fridays, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Texas Roadhouse also announced its operating hours, which will be a "dinner only" offering during the weekdays, Monday through Thursday from 4 until 10 p.m. and from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays. The weekend hours will expand for lunch and dinner from 11 to 11 on Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sundays.
