Commissioner Bill Carey will retire as County Commissioner this September, and because his term doesn’t end until 2016, the Democratic Central Committee is responsible for providing a list of three names for Commissioners Curtiss and Rowley to consider in filling the remaining 15 months of Commissioner Carey’s term. Chief Administrative Officer, Vickie Zeier explains what might happen if the two Commissioners can not decide on one of the three names.

"If for some reason they can't agree upon one of the three candidates then the Democratic party will be allowed to submit three more names and then the Commissioners must pick from those six names."

To ensure a transparent process, the Commissioners will hold two public forums. At these events, the public can learn more from Commissioners Carey, Curtiss and Rowley about the work of a county commissioner.

"What will be occurring is the commissioners will just kind of do a review of what their job entails and what they do on a daily basis," Zeiek said. "I believe Commissioner Carey is going to give a little intro about public service, and then we are going to open it up to the public and for any perspective candidates to address both the Commissioners about why they would like the job."

The Forums will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, July 15 and from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 21 at the County Administration Building.
