An 85-year-old Missoula man who was involved in a weekend crash that killed his wife has died from his injuries.

Jim Stover died after being hospitalized following Sunday afternoon's crash in Pattee Canyon, south of Missoula. His wife, 83-year-old Beryl C. Stover, was killed in the crash.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Paul Pfau says Jim Stover was driving an SUV downhill, following his daughter, when it went off a Forest Service road into a ravine. Officials say the edge of the road was soft because it had recently been bladed.

The daughter heard a loud noise and didn't see her parents' vehicle.

She called 911, and the vehicle had to be stabilized before rescue workers could reach the couple.
