Hamilton Volunteer Firemen had to remove the top of a car to extricate passengers in a wreck Saturday evening on US 93 south of Hamilton.

The two-car accident happened about 5 p.m. Jan. 31 at the Skalkaho turnoff when a southbound car crossed the centerline and hit a northbound auto. There was one person in the southbound vehicle and four people in the other car. All were injured in the accident, but all were wearing their seatbelts.

Traffic was stopped at times on US 93 to allow a victim to be airlifted to Missoula. The other occupants were transported to Hamilton's Marcus Daly Memorial Hospital, three of whom were later sent to Missoula.

The accident is under investigation.

Responding to the wreck were Hamilton police, Ravalli County Sheriff's officers, Montana Highway Patrol, Hamilton Volunteer Firemen and Marcus Daly Ambulances.
