Ever heard of a BUI? It was a new term to me...but it makes sense after I figured out what it meant.

NBC Montana reports Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks and the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office are beefing up patrols to watch for people boating under the influence on Flathead Lake this Fourth of July.

Flathead Lake is always busy for the Fourth of July as Montanans look to beat the heat on the water.

FWP officials said they attempt to check every boat in the lake. While it isn’t illegal to have alcoholic beverages in a boat, they are urging people use a designated driver.

NBC Montana says the intoxication level for BUI is .08, and the penalties can range from a citation to jail time.

The Flathead River will also be under the magnifying glass this weekend. Don't forget to celebrate the Fourth responsibly!
