Proposed horse-meat factories in New Mexico, Oregon, and elsewhere are being attacked by groups like the Humane Society who oppose the production of horse meat for human consumption. Horse lover and founder of Willing Servants, Theresa Manzella says that banning horse meat is hurting both horses and horse owners. The last U.S. horse meat processing plant was closed in 2007, but Americans still send horses to slaughterhouses in Mexico and Canada. Manzella claims that more horses could be saved and horse owners could be better off if processing plants were allowed to open up in the States again.
