KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) — Montana wildlife officials say they have captured a young male grizzly bear in a residential area north of Columbia Falls in northwestern Montana.

Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks officials tell the Flathead Beacon that the 4-year-old bear captured on Friday was caught in a trap intended for a much larger grizzly that has been getting into garbage in the area.

Officials say they fitted the 230-pound bear with a radio collar and released it Saturday in the Whale Creek area of the North Fork of the Flathead River drainage.

Officials say the bear had not previously been handled by wildlife officials.
