Two Whitefish brothers are accused of smashing into vehicles with bats or hammers and stealing the items inside in a Flathead County spree that had gone on for months.

Whitefish police officers arrested 20-year-old Colton Donsbach and 19-year-old Dustin Donsbach on Tuesday.

Police say they have recovered between $20,000 and $30,000 worth of stolen items, including guns and electronics.

The thefts began in December and have continued throughout the year from unlocked vehicles or vehicles discovered with their windows smashed.

Whitefish police chief Bill Dial credited "good old-fashioned police work" and tips from the members for the arrests.

The brothers are being held in the Flathead County Detention Center on several misdemeanor charges. Flathead County prosecutors are reviewing whether additional charges are merited.
