Man With Felony Warrants Gets Caught With Meth in Missoula
On February 26, 2022, at around 11:33 p.m., a Missoula Police Department officer observed a vehicle parked outside the Lucky Lil’s Casino in the 2200 block of North Reserve and the registration returned suspended. At around 11:57 p.m., the vehicle left the area and an officer initiated a traffic stop.
The vehicle drove through a red light on Reserve Street and continued to slowly drive on the shoulder for approximately 100 yards before stopping. The officer made contact with the driver of the vehicle and identified him as 31-year-old Tyler Tilton. Police Public Information Officer Lydia Arnold explains.
“When officers asked Tilton to show his identification, the officers became aware that Tilton did not have a valid driver’s license,” Arnold said. “During the stop, officers made observations consistent with drug activity and paraphernalia consistent with illegal substance use. Dispatch made the officers on scene aware that Tilton had several drug related warrants. Tilton was taken into custody for those warrants.”
It was discovered Tilton had several outstanding warrants for his arrest, one being for felony possession of dangerous drugs from Dillon, Montana. During a search incident to arrest, officers located a digital scale in Tilton’s front right pant pocket, which had white residue consistent with methamphetamine.
“A Missoula Police Department K9 officer also became involved,” Arnold said. “Based on the observed indicators by the officers on scene, officers seized the vehicle and applied for a search warrant to search the vehicle. The warrant was granted. During the search, officers located items belonging to Tilton and substances that showed a preliminary presumptive positive for methamphetamine.”
The officer completed a search of the vehicle and found a one gram baggie of meth, two syringes containing meth, two glass pipes, a stolen handgun, a butane lighter, butane fuel, and a tourniquet. All items were seized and logged into evidence at the Missoula Police Department.
Court documents indicate Tilton had felony arrests in Deer Lodge for two counts of criminal possession of dangerous drugs in 2018. He is currently being charged with felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs, theft, driving with a suspended or revoked license, and criminal possession of drug paraphernalia.
