Wanted Man in a Stolen Car Flees on Foot, Gets Caught With Meth
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On January 23, 2025, a Missoula County Sheriff’s Office Deputy was on patrol in the Seely Lake area when he observed a Chevrolet Suburban that raised his suspicion. A registration check returned as “inactive.” The deputy followed the vehicle and initiated a traffic stop for inactive registration.
The driver, 33-year-old Tyler Stone, exited the Suburban and asked what he had done. The deputy told Stone to get back inside his vehicle. He re-entered the Suburban for a brief period but then fled on foot.
While fleeing, Stone acted in such a manner that caused the deputy to believe he was in possession of a firearm. The deputy drew his service pistol and ordered Stone to the ground.
Stone smoked a cigarette as he laid on the ground and refused to spit the cigarette out when ordered to do so. Stone wiggled his head to prevent assisting another deputy from stopping him from smoking during the arrest process.
Stone stated that he had absconded from Flathead County and had warrants. Stone also admitted that he had methamphetamine in his pocket. Officers retrieved two large crystalline rocks from his person.

Under Miranda, Stone said he borrowed the vehicle from a buddy and was not sure if it was stolen. According to court documents, deputies learned that the vehicle was stolen from Gallatin County. During an inventory of the vehicle, deputies observed that the ignition had been “punched” and there was a screwdriver next to the ignition.
Deputies also found a pistol in the vehicle. Based on experience, the undersigned deputy county attorney knows that vehicles are sometimes stolen by means of forcefully manipulating the ignition to start a vehicle without a key.
Stone was placed under arrest and was transported to the Missoula County Detention Facility. He is currently being charged with felony theft of property of a light vehicle, felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs, and obstructing a peace officer. His bond was set at $25,000.
