The Montana Supreme Court is making a road trip to the University of Montana to decide a case before the public regarding travel companies paying online taxes to the state.

Associate law professor Pippa Browde said the case will be heard here in Missoula on Friday.

"This is a state tax case that involved the Montana lodging industry and the sales tax that applies on hotels and rental vehicles," Browde said. "More specifically if those taxes apply to a number of online travel businesses and the hotel and rental car agencies that they work with."

Browde said the public is welcome to attend this rare open session of the Montana Supreme Court.

"It's at the Dennison Theater on the UM campus," she said. "The oral arguments will begin at 10 a.m. but I will be introducing the case and explaining more in detail starting at 9:30 in the morning."

Admission is free to attend the Supreme Court hearing.
