UM Commencement – 2014 – Address by Montana Governor Steve Bullock [AUDIO]
Starting with the advice "buy a Mickey Mouse watch", Montana Governor Steve Bullock presented the commencement address to the University of Montana graduating class of 2014 on Saturday, May 17.
Bullock, born in Missoula but raised in Helena, was Montana's Attorney General before his successful campaign to become governor in 2012. He attended the UM Law School for a brief time before graduating from the Columbia Law School.
In his address, Bullock began by offering five pieces of advice for the graduating class, buying a Mickey Mouse watch, disappointing your parents, find your path and be willing to adjust, assume you're invited, and wear your seat belt.
The final piece of advice came to Bullock because his position before becoming governor, was as Montana's Attorney General, and this head of the Montana Highway Patrol.
"I found that most of the fatalities on the roads occurred because people weren't wearing a seat belt," Bullock said. "So, if one piece of advice I can give you will stick, I hope it's that you'll wear your seat belt."
Saturday's event was the 117th commencement at the University of Montana, and was held under the spring sun at Washington Grizzly Stadium.
