Treasured Daly Mansion in Hamilton Will Celebrate 20s with Gala
Hamilton's Daly Mansion is having a fun night this month by returning to the decade of the 20s. Wait a minute! Aren't we in 2022? Yes we are, but this is a celebration of 100 years ago - also known as the Roaring 20s of the 1900s.
It's called "A Gatsby Gala," hearkening back to that era's literature, and on the evening of February 26, the stately building northeast of Hamilton will transform into a "speakeasy," which was a private club that defied the 1920s alcohol prohibition. At that time, this type of establishment did serve adult beverages - in secret. The mansion will indeed have that kind of refreshment at a no-host bar (courtesy of the Rainbow Bar). But there's also speakeasy gambling (for fun), and some swinging jazz music, too.
Music, you say? Yes, indeed. The Big Sky Mudflaps will be entertaining the guests, starting at 7 p.m. Some dancing is expected. Decadent snacks from Chef Bobby Coza will be served and you're encouraged to dress in 1920s style - men in suits and women in flapper dresses. Exit Realty is sponsoring a third-floor casino with games of chance. And at another area of the mansion this year, there will be two tabletop "horseracing" games - in honor of Marcus Daly's Tammany and other winning racehorses.
When you get your tickets to the event, you'll also receive a password. When you come to the front door that night, knock. When it opens, you will be asked what that word might be. By the way, "Joe sent me" doesn't work.
This has been an annual fundraiser for the historic Copper King mansion. It was canceled last year due to COVID, but it's back. Advance ticket sales are going fast at $55 a person or $100 a couple. And, since there are adult beverages, you must be age 21 or older to attend. More information at the Daly Mansion website.
