The National Average Price of Gas Increased 13 Cents, But Montana Prices Didn’t Budge
Gas prices are all over the map right now after last weekend's missile attack on Saudi Arabian oil fields. Patrick DeHaan is the head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy and he says the national average jumped significantly, but prices in Montana haven’t budged.
“Prices are still hovering around $2.74 across most of the area,” DeHaan said. “The statewide average is actually only up a penny in Montana in the last week. Montana is certainly bucking the national trend. The national average is up 13 cents a gallon in the last week. We are seeing a lot of prices holding near their recent levels, especially in the Rocky Mountains.”
The national average price of gasoline currently sits at about $2.68 per gallon. According to DeHaan, prices should remain fairly stable during the next couple of weeks.
“Oil prices have cooled off a little bit, but it is still possible that there will be some upward direction,” DeHaan said. “I don’t know when it will come, if it is going to be a week or two weeks or if by then the Saudis will fix everything. For now, I don’t expect prices to go down a whole lot, but they may also barely budge to the high side. There may be a little bit of stability here in the next week or two, but prices will eventually start to fall again.”
In Michigan, the average price of gas has jumped 25 cents in the past week. The cheapest station in Montana is priced at $2.57 per gallon and the most expensive is $3.20 per gallon.
