"The pilgrims were illegal aliens," says cultural training speaker Samuel Betances, in a video recently acquired from the United States Department of Agriculture by the conservative advocacy group Judicial Watch. The video was acquired by using a Freedom of Information Act request.

The seminar is titled "Leveraging Diversity Intelligence for Transformational Leadership at USDA," and, even by Betances' own admission it's expensive. "If you think about your salaries and your benefits and what you have left undone. Plus my fee. Plus the expense of the team that's putting the video together. This is a huge expense."

It is difficult to say exactly how much money was spent to have these seminars conducted. From the fee schedule released in the FOIA it appears that for a half day Betances charges $7,603. There are many other charges associated with the seminar however.

On his website, Betances describes himself as a "biracial, bicultural, and bilingual citizen of the world," that emerged "out of the bowels of inner city poverty." He has a doctorate from Harvard and is now "America's foremost communicator on the challenge of casting away barriers to success."
