An hour before sunrise on Saturday, thousands of hunters will be looking for deer and elk throughout Montana, as the general rifle season gets underway.
While general rifle season doesn’t officially begins until Saturday, young hunters have an opportunity to get ahead of the game. Starting tomorrow hunters between the ages of 10 and 15 have a chance to take an early shot.
The calendar has turned to September, and so hunting seasons are underway in Montana.
Education coordinator Vivaca Crowser said archery season began with the start of the Labor Day weekend.
It only took Old Man Winter a few hours to set in shop in western Montana, as the first arctic storm of the season dumped several inches of snow, snarling rush hour traffic. One fatality reported east of Missoula on I-90.
The general hunting season in Montana starts this Saturday. Regional Wildlife Manager for Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, Mike Thompson, says the season runs for five weeks through the Sunday after Thanksgiving.
