Missoula’s Roxy Theater is getting an upgrade this week and will begin showing digital films for the first time.

The National Institutes of Health has awarded Montana State University $5.4 million to research emerging diseases that originate in animals and are transferred to humans.

Governor Steve Bullock declared today that Montana has been awarded over $400,000 for outdoor recreation and conservation projects.

New grants are flowing to seven Montana businesses in hopes of bringing healthier food to local schools and public institutions.

The Poverello Center recently cleared another hurdle in its quest to claim funds awarded to it by a special grant back in 2009. The recent environmental survey conducted by the city of Missoula found that there would be no negative environmental impacts if the Poverello center were to move to the Trail's End location on West Broadway.

The United States Department of Agriculture announced today the winners of its new grant program. Businesses in 44 states and Puerto Rico received money for business development assistance including three companies in Montana. Public Affairs Specialist for USDA Rural Development in Montana, J. P. As of January 30, 2012, more than 380 million dollars is available for fire departments nationwide. The money is available through the Safer Act Grants, which were put in place by the Department of Homeland Security. SAFER is an acronym that stands for Staffing for Adequate Fire & Emergency Response. The goal of the SAFER grants is to ensure that fire departments have enough staff members to respond to tragedies in a timely manner. The grants for full time staff members are only good for 24 months (volunteer fire department staff receive 48 months of coverage). Assistant Fire Chief with the Missoula Rural Fire Department, Brent Christopherson explains the difficult decision his department has to make regarding the grant money.

Missoula County plans on applying for a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Grant. The grant, known as the Brownsfields Multi-Purpose Pilot Grant is meant only for "community based organizations" and requires those organizations to conduct community notification before submitting a request. According to the E.P.A.'s frequently asked questions site, which you can read here, only one project per region will receive the grant and a total of $550,000 is possible for cleaning up the chosen site. The Missoula County request would be used to help clean up asbestos at the Missoula County Courthouse.
