Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On May 11, 2025, a Montana Highway Patrol trooper was patrolling the area of US Highway 93 near Buckhouse Bridge. The trooper observed a white Ford Focus that was travelling at 80mph in an area marked 55mph. The vehicle passed the trooper and was occupied by two people: a male in the driver's seat and a female in the passenger seat.

The trooper attempted a traffic stop. The Focus turned right onto Blue Mountain Road and had to swerve to miss crashing into another car. The trooper continued the pursuit and noted the Focus travelling at 70-75 mph on Blue Mountain Road. The trooper observed the Focus make several unsafe passes in the narrow roadway and then turn right onto River Pine Road.

The Focus crossed the McClay Bridge and continued down North Avenue at 55 mph before turning left onto Humble Road. While approaching the intersection of North Avenue and Clements Road, the Focus ran a stop sign. The Focus continued on Clements Road and ran another stop sign before turning left onto South Avenue.

The Vehicle Continued to Drive Dangerously

The trooper continued the pursuit on South Avenue and observed the vehicle making several more unsafe passes at a speed of approximately 65mph in the 35mph speed zone. Law enforcement blocked off South Avenue at Reserve Street. The Focus slowed and took a right-hand turn on Old Fort Road prior to coming to Reserve Street.

The Focus came to a stop, and the female exited the vehicle. The trooper conducted a high-risk stop with his duty pistol drawn, ordering the driver to shut off the car. The female was apprehended by other law enforcement personnel. The male, later identified as 30-year-old Andrew Gervais, was taken into custody.

The trooper looked through the Focus and observed several open alcohol containers in the passenger compartment. The trooper ran Gervais's driver’s status and determined his license was suspended. Gervais was placed in handcuffs.

A DUI Investigation is Conducted

The trooper noted Gervais smelled strongly of alcohol, and his eyes were watery and bloodshot. Gervais was transported to the Missoula County Detention Facility. While en route to the jail, the trooper read Gervais his Miranda rights. Gervais advised that he would not answer any questions but would comply with a DUI investigation.

While at the jail, the trooper administered the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests, and Gervais scored 13 out of 18 clues for impairment. Gervais was read the Preliminary Alcohol Screening Test Advisory and agreed to provide a breath sample. According to court documents, the result was 0.147 BrAC.
