Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - At approximately 11:27 p.m. on October 17, 2025, a Missoula Police Department Officer responded to a noise complaint at a residence in the 1700 block of Cooley St. The caller had reported that people were sitting in a black SUV in front of a trailer playing loud music. The officer located the vehicle and observed two males, one in the driver’s seat and one in the passenger seat.

The officer approached the vehicle from the passenger side and instructed the driver to roll down the window. The driver had to be instructed to do so multiple times, and initially rolled down the back passenger window. The driver was asked for his license, which he inaccurately stated was in his wallet in his sweatshirt pocket. Once located, the license identified the driver as 45-year-old Christopher Grafft.

The officer observed an open 16-ounce beer can in the center console. Grafft appeared dazed and lethargic. The passenger was holding a marijuana dab pen, and the interior of the vehicle smelled strongly of an alcoholic beverage. According to court documents, Grafft stated that he had been at a softball game and had had a couple of beers there, and had left at 9:15 p.m.

Grafft exited the vehicle and was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tests but after initially agreeing to perform them, ultimately refused to do so. Grafft did not respond to requests for a preliminary breath test or implied consent test after being advised that silence would be considered a refusal.

A blood draw was later performed pursuant to a warrant. Toxicology results are pending as of the time of filing. The officer requested a criminal background check for prior impaired driving convictions, which indicated that Grafft had three prior impaired driving convictions in Missoula and a pending DUI case out of Ravalli County.
