Crews from the Frenchtown volunteer fire department responded to a 9-1-1 call at about 6:30 last night for a fire at the old Smurfitt-Stone site, where structures there are being dismantled.

Joe McNeal with the Missoula County Sheriff's Departments says smoke from the fire was visible throughout the Missoula Valley. He says fire crews brought the blaze under control in a few hours, and were wrapping up the scene at about 10 o'clock last night, although some fire personnel are remaining at the scene. McNeal says Missoula Rural Fire also provided assistance and sheriff's deputies handled traffic in the area.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
