Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On April 29, 2026, at around 11:23 am, the Missoula Police Department provided a statement about an early morning shooting. Police Public Information Officer Whitney Bennett has the details.

“Shortly before 1:00 this morning, Missoula Police Department officers responded to the 500 block of east Broadway for multiple reports of shots being heard in the area,” Bennett said. “Based on information provided by witnesses, officers detained a 25-year-old male and a 15-year-old male as potential suspects. The 25-year-old male was not fully compliant with officer commands and repeatedly stated he was going to reach in his pockets to get his cell phone despite being given multiple commands not to reach in his pockets.”

Due to the reported involvement of a firearm and the information provided by witnesses, Bennett said an officer deployed a Taser to prevent the male from accessing his pockets as he had stated he was going to do.

“The male was evaluated by medical personnel before both suspect males were transported to the Missoula Police Department for interviews with detectives,” Bennett said. “Officers canvassed the area and located multiple spent shell casings. A vehicle at the scene appeared to have been struck by gunfire. At this time, no additional damage or impact locations have been identified.”

Bennett said both individuals have since been released without charges, pending further investigation.
