Shattered Glass And An Arrest At The Poverello Center
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On August 1, 2025, a Missoula Police Department officer was dispatched to a report of vandalism that had just occurred at the Poverello Center. The officer was advised that a male had just broken the front security door with a rock and that the male was walking eastbound on West Broadway. The suspect was described as a white male adult with dark brown hair wearing a gray top, beige pants, and had dark brown hair.
Soon after, near the area of Yoke’s Fresh Market, the officer observed a male matching the description walking eastbound on West Broadway. The officer stopped the male, later identified as 46-year-old Michael Patterson.
Another officer asked Patterson if he knew why he had been stopped. According to court documents, Patterson stated, “Yes. I threw a f*****g rock that’s been harassing the s**t outta me because somebody keeps pointing some s**t at me, and that place knows, and they’re f*****g doing it too. There’s a reason why it was that f*****g rock.” Patterson was then arrested and remanded into the custody of the jail.

The Officer Reviewed the Surveillance Footage
The officer then responded to the Poverello Center, where he observed shattered glass of the front security door and a large rock lying east of the door. The officer then met with the reporting party, who had already clipped the security footage and had it ready for the case. The officer could see Patterson on the computer screen and asked the reporting party if Patterson was the male who had broken the door. They stated that he was.
The officer asked security on scene for a dollar amount to replace the door, but was told a final estimate would not be available until the following Monday. The officer then looked at older cases in which the Poverello Center had its door broken and found the estimate to replace the door in 2023 was approximately $1,900. After searching the internet for comparable replacement doors, the officer found the cost to be approximately $2,500.
