Several agencies responded to a wildfire near Huson on Tuesday evening.

Public Information Officer Mel Holtz with Frenchtown Fire, said the call came in late on Tuesday afternoon.

"Upon arrival, the fore was already at approximately a half-acre," said Holtz. "The wind was picking up and ultimately carried it to about a one-acre fire. We had resources from Frenchtown Rural Fire, as well as the DNRC, and the Nine-Mile Ranger District who all provided support and we were able to knock that fire down."

Holtz said the fire may have started when a homeowner did some open burning on his property.

"It looks like maybe there was some homeowner who was doing some open burning on the property in the last day or two," he said. "When the winds picked up it may have reignited. That's a reminder to people that open burning is closed in both Missoula and Mineral counties, and definitely, now is not the time, especially with the heat and dry weather, things are going to be drying out and we're heading into the wildland fire season coming up."

Holtz said crews remained on the scene to mop up any hot spots from the fire.
