Search Suspended for Missing Boater in Clark Fork River
UPDATE: 7:00 P.M. SUNDAY, JUNE 10
Missoula County Search and Rescue crews suspended their search late Sunday afternoon for a 70 year-old man who was one of two men who capsized in a drift boat on Saturday.
One other man in the drift boat was able to get to shore, while the other man was trapped under a logjam.
Search and Rescue coordinator Joe Blatner told KGVO News on Sunday evening that crews suspended their search on Saturday evening between Clinton and Turah due to lightning near the Clark Fork River.
Crews gathered together at about 8:00 a.m. Sunday to plan their strategy for searching the area near logjams in the river, and got into the water at about 10:00 a.m. They searched for several hours through the afternoon and were unsuccessful in finding the missing man due to the high and fast water.
He said Missoula County Sheriff's deputies and other volunteers have been in communication with the man's family and friends and will keep them abreast of any further developments. The search will continue when the water levels drop to where the logjams will be uncovered.
