Saratoga Weathers North Platte Flooding
Residents of Saratoga are breathing easier after the North Platte River did not reach record levels on Saturday as feared.
The National Weather Service says the river hovered around 10 feet, or about 1.5 feet above flood stage. It was forecast to go as high as the record of 10.5 feet.
Volunteers aided by the Wyoming National Guard and others filled and piled sandbags.
But cooler temperatures helped slow the runoff from the surrounding mountains.
The river is expected to slowly recede throughout the next week back into its banks.
Elsewhere in Wyoming, minor flooding was occurring along Pacific Creek near Moran, the Green River at LaBarge, the Wind River in Fremont County, Medicine Lodge Creek at Hyattville, the Laramie River at Laramie and Big Goose Creek in Sheridan County.
