Routine Missoula Traffic Stop Leads to Discovery of Fentanyl Pills

Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On July 22, 2024, a Missoula Police Department Officer was patrolling near Broadway St. and Scott St. when he observed a white Jeep in front of him approaching the intersection. The officer observed the light turn yellow as the Jeep continued to approach the intersection without slowing down. The officer observed the stoplight turn red before the Jeep entered the intersection.  

The officer initiated a traffic stop and identified the driver. The vehicle was also occupied by one passenger identified as 40-year-old Robin Green-Grant. Another officer informed the investigating officer that he had multiple previous interactions with Green-Grant. The officer also learned that Green-Grant had a warrant out of Ravalli County.  

The officer asked Green-Grant to exit the vehicle. While waiting to see if the detention center would hold Green-Grant on her warrant, the officer asked if Green-Grant minded if he conducted a pat search for weapons. Green-Grant responded “sure” and the officer conducted the search. The officer asked Green-Grant if she was okay with him searching her pockets and Green-Grant again responded by saying “sure.”

Within Green-Grant's right-side jean shorts’ pocket, in the smaller coin pocket in the front, the officer felt a plastic material that felt like a small bag. The officer asked Green-Grant what the item was and she responded that it was tissues. The officer removed the item and observed a small plastic bag containing eight suspected fentanyl pills inside.

Green-Grant was then placed under arrest for possession of dangerous drugs. During a search incident to arrest, the officer located two balloons in Green-Grant's back right pocket. The officer recognized the balloons as those being used to consume dangerous drugs through inhalation. 

Green-Grant was transported to the Missoula County Detention Facility. She is currently being charged with felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs and criminal possession of drug paraphernalia.
