Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On November 4, 2024, Missoula County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to the area of the Wye for a report of a possible assault with a weapon between two drivers on I-90. A deputy contacted John Doe, one of the reported victims, at the front door of his residence after he had left the scene and returned home following the report of the incident.

Doe advised that he was driving westbound on I-90 from Missoula toward the Wye. Doe said he was eventually behind a red Chevy Traverse that was driving in the passing lane of I-90. Doe stated other cars had passed the Traverse in the driving lane while Doe was behind it. Doe admitted that he could have been following too closely behind the Traverse but estimated that he was at least approximately one and a half to two car lengths behind it.

Doe stated that he wanted to pass the Traverse and was following close trying to let them know to move over so he could pass. Doe said the driver of the Traverse put his hand out of the window and flipped them off. A short time later, the driver of the Traverse held a gun out the window for approximately 30 seconds and pointed it directly at them.

Doe Follows the Traverse to Get the License Plate

Doe stated that his wife called 911 at this point. Doe stated the Traverse then took the exit at the Wye and continued driving north on Hwy 93, turned into the parking lot of the Town Pump, then pulled off to the right, and stopped. Doe drove past the Travers without stopping only in order to get the license plate. The Traverse left shortly after and continued west on I-90.

During the time of these interviews, law enforcement found the vehicle at the 90 mile marker where it was successfully stopped. The driver exited the vehicle, was arrested, and identified as 34-year-old Bobby Bujan. The deputy observed an empty tan leather holster on Bujan’s hip. Bujan was mirandized where he indicated he understood his rights and waived them. At one point, Bujan stated, “I pulled out my gun and I held it out the window.”

Deputies Locate Two Firearms

Then Bujan authorized consent for deputies to search his vehicle. On the front passenger seat, a deputy located a Canik 9MM pistol. The firearm had a magazine in it with 18 rounds of ammunition. In the center console, the deputy also located a Springfield XPS 9MM. That firearm also had a magazine in it and had 8 rounds of ammunition.

Both firearms were cleared by dispatch and were seized as evidence. The deputy went back to Bujan and showed him the Canik pistol. he asked him if that was the pistol he had on him and used. According to court documents, Bujan affirmed it was by nodding his head up and down.

The deputy noted per his investigation that the use of the Canik handgun in the commission of this crime and pointing it at all three victims in their vehicle would cause any reasonable person to believe that they could be injured or killed.

Bujan is currently being charged with three counts of felony assault with a weapon and driving with a suspended or revoked license, second or subsequent offense. His bond was set at $25,000.
