Probationer Caught With Drugs During Library Arrest in Missoula
Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - On October 28, 2025, Missoula Police Department Officers were executing an arrest warrant on a probationer who had an active warrant for arrest for probation violations. The individual was said to be located at the Missoula City Library.
Officers arrived on scene and located the individual, 62-year-old John Kilmer. Kilmer confirmed his name, and officers determined that Kilmer matched the individual the warrant was directed to. Kilmer was advised of the warrant and arrested.
Kilmer had a backpack on his person when located. Prior to transporting Kilmer to the Missoula County Detention Facility, Probation and Parole Officers advised that they wanted to come to the scene to contact Kilmer.

Probation and Parole Officers arrived and spoke to Kilmer. Probation and Parole then conducted a probation search of Kilmer’s backpack. Inside the backpack, a small baggie of a white, crystalline substance was located. Officers noted the substance was consistent with methamphetamine based on their training and experience.
Probation and Parole advised that Kilmer would be arrested for probation violations and new charges. Kilmer then denied the backpack was his, stating he got it from a friend the previous night. Kilmer denied that the baggie inside the backpack was his. The substance inside the baggie was field tested, which resulted in a presumptive positive result for methamphetamine.
Kilmer is currently being charged with felony criminal possession of dangerous drugs, and his bond was set at $20,000 for a probation violation.
