More sad news as another long-time Missoula favorite is closing permanently at the end of 2021. After 25 years of making Missoulians feel beautiful and relaxed, Sorella's Day Spa, located in an iconic, historic downtown building at 207 East Main, is closing its doors for good. Another victim of atrocious rent hikes? Probably.

Many beloved Missoula businesses have closed over the past year, most recently the Hob Nob, Cafe Dolce, and Sparkle Laundry. Sparkle, a popular hang for Hellgate High School students for decades, cited a 300% increase in rent as their reason for closing. Although many different factors are at play when it comes to barely hanging on or having to close in Missoula, I feel like it's the older establishments that are calling it quits. Places that maybe older customers frequent more often, and with the older population being more cautious about COVID-19, perhaps their favorite places are suffering. Not to blame them, of course, they're doing the right thing, but it seems to be a pattern.

A note from Sorella's:

After 25 Years, Sorella’s Day Spa Is Winding Down And Will Be Closing Our Doors At The End Of The Year.
It Has Been An Incredible Journey And We Are Forever Grateful To Our Amazing Sorella’s Team As Well As This Wonderful Community That Has Supported Us All These Years.

Some positive news is that Missoula just got a Firehouse Subs on North Reserve, where Fuddruckers used to be. Two local dudes just opened Slant Street Records on Higgins. And the owners of Rumour Restaurant on Stephens say they've "planning and prepping for a number of new things" and will open to the public on November 3rd. Keep ya posted.

Final Night at Missoula's Fred's Lounge

Missoula's iconic Fred's Lounge at the Wye closed permanently on 9/25/2001.
