Blaine County officials say a single-engine crop dusting plane crashed about 50 yards from a north-central Montana farmhouse, killing the pilot.

County Commissioner Vic Miller says the plane crashed at about 5:15 a.m. Tuesday between Turner and Hogeland. The pilot was identified as Blaine County Coroner Marvin Edwards.

The pilot's body was being taken to the state crime lab in Missoula for an autopsy.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration, and a preliminary report is expected in a couple of weeks.
