Why Peter Christian Is So Eager to Visit Brooklyn Bagel and Bakery
Brooklyn Bagel and Bakery just opened offering authentic New York bagels, cheesecakes, cannolis, and other pastries from the top bagel and pastry shops in New York City — Ess-a-Bagel and Ferrara. If you're not familiar, an Austrian family started Ess-a-Bagel in 1976, and it rapidly gained popularity. Now, their bagels aren't just available at their flagship store ... they also are boiled in New York tap water (considered among the world's best) and shipped here for baking.
Meanwhile, Ferrara’s is a family-owned business dating back to 1892 that is celebrated as America's first pasticceria (Italian bakery) and espresso bar. Think chocolate truffle cake, tiramisu cakes and cups, rainbow cookies, and multiple flavors of cannolis.
As I look at their menu, first, of course, I think of the pleasure of tasting a genuine New York-style bagel … with cream cheese … wait a minute ... did I see CHOCOLATE CHIP cream cheese?! Whoa!!! Their cream cheese options also include vegetable, scallion, lox (genuine lox), jalapeno, strawberry, and blueberry.
For breakfast … I’m looking forward to sinking my teeth into a sausage and egg bagel sandwich so filling it’ll be my main meal of the day! What else could I possibly need?!
But, most of all…one magic word…CHEESECAKES!!! Being a cheesecake purist, I think I’ll dive into a plain New York Cheesecake, but they have blueberry, strawberry, and blackberry, too ... as well as some seasonal options. You can pair all this with coffee and espresso drinks, tea, lemonade, fruit juice, and more.
The owner, Les, was inspired to bring some of the favorites he remembers from growing up in New York City out here to Montana. He's always wanted to live in Montana and made that dream a reality 7 years ago. Now, he operates multiple businesses in our great state and gives back to Montana communities by donating food to children in need and supporting the Watson Children’s Shelter.
His latest venture, Brooklyn Bagel and Bakery, is continuously adding products and the menu is evolving. I'm looking forward to my first visit and urge you to give them a try, too! You can find them at 2865 N. Reserve St., Missoula, and online at brooklynbagelbakery.com.
