Oregon Man Drowns In Flathead Lake While Working on his Boat
Lake County Sheriff Don Bell reported on Saturday that an Oregon man drowned in Flathead Lake on Thursday, September 12, just after 3:00 p.m.
Bell said 9-1-1 received a call regarding a possible drowning near Rollins.
75 year-old John Stoianoff reportedly had been doing some maintenance on his boat, and he was found about an hour later in12 to 15 feet of water, which prompted the 9-1-1 call.
A responding Lake County deputy was able to dive down and pull the victim from the bottom.
Bell said life saving measures were attempted, but unsuccessful.
Rollins and Chief Cliff Fire Departments, as well as Lake County Search and Rescue all responded to the scene.
The Lake County Coroner and the State Medical Examiner both determined both the manner and cause of death was accidental drowning
