One Suspect in Custody – One at Large in Turner Street Shooting
One suspect in a drug related home invasion and shooting that occurred in February on Turner Street Missoula is in custody on other charges, while the second suspect is still at large.
24 year-old Steven Simpkins is currently on a federal hold without bond in the Missoula County Jail while the other suspect, Jamie Canada, remains at large.
Deputy Missoula County Attorney Mac Bloom provides details about the home invasion incident that occurred on February 2, 2018.
“The affidavit says that there was a shooting at Turner Court where the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the chest,” said Bloom. “It’s alleged that Steven Simpkins and Jamie Canada entered a residence and demanded that the victim open his safe, and during the ensuing robbery slash home invasion, the victim was shot. It is also alleged that he was punched and cut with a sword on the leg.”
Bloom said there is an active warrant out for Canada’s arrest, and when authorities apprehend him, he will be taken into custody and brought back to Missoula to face charges.
The initial warrants charge both men with felony accountability for robbery and aggravated burglary.
“The State obtained different statements from different witnesses regarding who is responsible for the shooting, so the charges reflect the actual evidence that was collected. The affidavit and charging documents lay out the basis for the charges that were filed,” he said.
The condition of the shooting victim was not revealed by prosecutors.
Anyone with knowledge of the whereabouts of Jamie Canada is asked to contact the Missoula Police Department at 552-6300 or Missoula Crimestoppers at 721-4444.
