Two officers with the Missoula Police Department received minor injuries when their unmarked vehicle was struck by an alleged drunk driver.

Sergeant Jim Klowitter said the accident occurred at about 11 p.m. Monday night, December 10 at the intersection of West Broadway and Mullan Road.

"They were eastbound on Mullan Road in an unmarked police vehicle while the female driver was coming through the intersection on West Broadway when she ran the red light and struck them," Klowitter said.

Klowitter said the woman, identified as Heather Leane Bennett, 36, was charged with DUI as well as assault on a peace officer, but did not assault the two undercover officers.

"She assaulted a Montana Highway Patrol trooper who was investigating the accident, and then fought with personnel at the Missoula County jail," Klowitter said. "The two officers received minor injuries, but did not seek medical attention, and finished out their shift."

Bennett was placed in the Missoula County jail.
