New Hamilton High School Athletic Complex Plans are Complete
The final plans for the proposed Hamilton School athletic complex have been approved by the school board and will be presented to the public next week. The meeting will be Wednesday, February 7, at 6:30 p.m. at Hamilton High School. The football/soccer field will be built next to the Hamilton High School on Kurtz Lane on the eastern edge of Hamilton. Superintendent Tom Korst told KLYQ that the field will include synthetic turf, which will cost more initially than grass surface, but upkeep will have lower maintenance costs (saving $15,000 per year) and the field will offer greater safety, access and field consistency. Ronan and Laurel High Schools have reported success with artificial turf.
The school board meeting February will be in the Commons area of Hamilton High and the designs from Paradygm v2 Architects of Missoula will be shown, along with explanation of other features, including main bleachers with over 1,500 capacity, a 10-lane synthetic track, team rooms, and booths for media and coaches. Korst said the new track will enable Hamilton to host track meets again. The budget for the facility is coming from a levy passed by the voters last year and the stadium replaces Haynes Field next to Bitterroot College.
Korst said design work is continuing on the major addition and remodel of Daly Elementary School, the other part of the levy request.
