Montana State University officials say spring enrollment at the Bozeman campus is 15,561 students. That's 132 fewer students than last year's record-setting enrollment, but it is still the second-highest number of students in its history. The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports that enrollment has increased 9% compared to five years ago. MSU's total enrollment count includes students at Gallatin College.

According to the Bozeman Daily Chronicle, retention rates at MSU are high as well; the University reportedly has about a 90% rate of students returning for the spring semester after the fall semester. Its graduation rate is also higher than it's been in decades, MSU told the Bozeman Daily Chronicle, with 29.7% of students graduating in four years.

Meanwhile, enrollment at the University of Montana campus is down 3.7% compared to last year. There has been a nearly 35% decline in enrollment at UM since 2011. First-year student retention at UM stands at about 89% from the fall semester to the spring semester, the highest rate in four years.
