At around 12:30 a.m. on Sunday, Missoula Police officers responded to the report of a disturbance at a residence in the 700 block of Stoddard street. When officers arrived, they heard a male yelling obscene and profane statements towards another person. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh explains.

“They made contact with a female outside who reported that her husband, 35-year-old Justin Stinger, was yelling at her father inside. The father is actually the owner of the residence,” Welsh said. “The officers went inside and made contact with Mr. Stinger who immediately projected hostility towards the officer. He took up a fighting stance and refused to follow instructions.”

According to Welsh, they tried to take Mr. Stinger into custody until they could conduct an investigation.

“Mr. Stinger refused to cooperate,” Welsh said. “He was eventually taken to the ground and placed in handcuffs by one of the responding officers. He was subsequently arrested for partner or family member assault. Officers determined that it was in fact a third offense, which is a felony in the state of Montana.”

Mr. Stinger was also arrested for disorderly conduct, obstructing a peace officer and resisting arrest.
