
Montana Gas Prices Soar to New Levels, in Just Hours
That brief break in gas prices appears to be over for Montana drivers, with Triple A reporting average fuel prices have jumped another 20 cents a gallon just this week.
Triple A reporting the average price for a gallon of regular crossed the $4 threshold the past couple of days, hitting $4.09 Thursday. That's up from $3.89 a week ago, and $3.70 average a month ago. Last year, on May 1st, we were paying just $3.18 for that same gas.
However, by Friday morning, the prices had jumped yet again, bringing the total increase to nearly 30 cents a gallon, as the Montana average hit $4.18 a gallon.
🚛 Diesel fuel climbed sharply, hitting $5.19 a gallon, up a dime from Thursday, and $4.96 last week.
By comparison, prices had only been climbing about 10 cents in an entire week since the Iranian War began, excluding last week, when prices actually dropped slightly or remained the same.
Prices hitting highest marks in years
Missoula's average price shot past $4.31 a gallon, up from $4.18 on Thursday. Great Falls drivers are paying $4.17, while regular gas is averaging $4.13 at stations in Billings.
All of the counties along the western border are paying among the highest, led by Granite County at $4.47. East of the Divide, Petroleum County matches that price.
Triple A says premium fuel now averages $4.85 a gallon statewide, with diesel now closing in on $5.20 a gallon, nearly 25-cents higher than last week.
⛽️ AAA says the highest fuel prices in Montana were set in June of 2022, when regular fuel averaged $4.97 a gallon, and $5.90 for diesel.
