Missoula, MT (KGVO-AM News) - After dropping 11 weeks in a row, Montana gas prices have finally increased, but just barely. Patrick De Haan is the head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy and he provided the current numbers.

“Average gasoline prices in Montana have risen .3 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.18 per gallon today,” De Haan said. “Prices in Montana are 10.9 cents per gallon lower than a month ago and stand 68.9 cents per gallon lower than a year ago.”

As of Monday morning, many stations in Missoula had their prices set to around $3.18 per gallon.

According to GasBuddy price reports, the cheapest station in Montana was priced at $3.01 per gallon yesterday while the most expensive was $3.69 per gallon.

Montana is currently ranked 15th in the U.S. when it comes to the average price of gas, which is three spots higher than last week.

“The national average price of gasoline has risen 3.3 cents per gallon in the last week, averaging $3.16 per gallon today,” De Haan said. “The national average is down 6.2 cents per gallon from a month ago and stands 39.7 cents per gallon lower than a year ago. The national average price of diesel has declined 1.3 cents in the last week and stands at $3.56 per gallon.”

According to De Haan, the median U.S. price for gasoline has just slipped below the $3 per gallon mark for the first time since early 2024.

“The national average price of gasoline has returned to decline as oil prices have begun to cool off after Iran's attack on Israel, due in part to sources saying Israel has agreed not to attack Iran's oil infrastructure," said De Haan. "With the potential of an attack on Iran's oil infrastructure decreasing as a result, the risk calculus for oil is decreasing, and with continued economic weakness in China providing bearish sentiment, oil prices late last week slipped back below the $70 per barrel mark, opening the door for a longer decline to potentially return to the national average.”

De Haan is hopeful that the downward trend will continue again this week as the average price of gasoline starts to make a targeted effort to fall below the $3 per gallon mark for the first time since 2021.
