Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks have discovered an abandoned animal near Florence and they need the public’s help in gathering more information. FWP Spokeswoman Vivaca Crowser explains.

“We had a bull elk that was discovered off the side of Three Mile Creek Road, which is really close to the entrance of Three Mile Wildlife Management Area east of Florence,” said Crowser. “The elk was dumped either October 10 or maybe a day ahead of that. The antlers were removed and about half the meat was still attached and left to waste.”

According to Crowser, wasting any game meat is considered illegal. She says salvaging all the meat is expected and required.

“We are looking for any information people may have to help us pursue this case,” Crowser said. “We have collected evidence at the scene, but now we are really needing citizen help. The best way to weigh in and provide that information is to call the 1-800-TIP-MONT number. That is 1-800-847-6668.”

Crowser says callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to a conviction.
