While California conducted their statewide earthquake drill last week, Missoula County Public Schools will have their Great Montana Shake-Out  on Wednesday at 10:21 a.m.

Public Information and Technology Director Hatton Littman said all elementary, secondary and high schools will participate in the state-mandated test.

"This is part of our mandated drill to prepare for any earthquake activity," Littman said. "At exactly 10:21 a.m. the principal or head administrator in that building will make an announcement that the drill has started," Littman said. "Students will follow the recommendations of the drill which are to get under a desk or some other structure, and cover their heads. They'll participate in this drill for about 60 seconds and then when the drill has been cleared, they continue with normal instruction."

Littman said a key component of the upcoming school mill levy request is funds to help make the schools safer and more secure in the event of an emergency, such as an earthquake.
