Missoula Woman is Arrested for Allegedly Embezzling Almost $4,000 from Target
At around 12:15 p.m. on Sunday, Missoula Police responded to the Target in the 2400 block of Reserve Street. Police Public Information Officer Travis Welsh explains.
“The store administration reported that an employee had been involved in concealing money from her register, causing a loss to the store,” Welsh said. “The employee was identified as 31-year-old Abbey Kimmel. It was also reported to the officers that Kimmel had been concealing cash and taking it from the store since about September 19th.”
A Corporate Manager interviewed Kimmel prior to officers’ arrival and obtained a signed confession from her. The store had video evidence of Kimmel removing cash from the register on multiple occasions.
“Kimmel was arrested and she was held in the Missoula County Jail for one count of theft by embezzlement,” Welsh said. “At this point of the investigation, it appears that Kimmel had concealed and taken in excess of $1,500 from the store she is employed by, making the crime a felony.”
According to court documents, the amount that they were able to confirm through video surveillance was approximately $2,500. It is suspected that Kimmel took closer to $4,000 according to the register shortage reports from the registers that she was assigned to. Kimmel stated that she could not recall how many times she took money from the register or when she started taking money due to short term memory loss.
